THESIS

"Walking Into My Faith"

Choreography comes from a choreographer that has the talent to create movement, establish positive rehearsal environments, engage an audience, and articulate a distinctive viewpoint that is essential. One thing for sure that I know makes great choreography is creativity.  Choreography with great ideas makes a performance more interesting, engaging, and exciting.  Often dancers start off their improvisation or a short choreographed phrase that emphasizes their individuality or personality.

Process Statement

In the beginning of my process, I had no clue on how I wanted to exit my senior year. I remember going from a large cast, to a trio, to a possible duet, to finally deciding I wanted to end my senior year with a solo. After starting a self reflection journal about my journey from beginning to a hopeful successful ending the pieces started to come together slowly, but surely. I created a new list every week of things I wanted to happen and/or change in my life that made me happy and content. From journaling and creating lists I began having deep conversations with myself about what I wrote down daily. In continuation, I also began asking myself questions such as , “ What makes you happy as a dancer besides the physical aspect especially during this pandemic”? Then I asked myself and friends and family, “ What makes you happy as an individual on a daily basis?” Lastly, “ What helps you get through your journey even when you struggle with personal problems?” After gathering all of my thoughts, I began to practice yoga, pilates every Wednesday , and listening to podcasts every morning to start the day off right. These practices challenged me to sink into my inner self and help as a guidance to continue my thesis. In conclusion, the visual material was created and influenced by my practices.

Project Thesis Statement

March 6, 2020 I remember it like it was yesterday. It was the day I came home for Spring break not realizing I would never return to The University of the Arts to continue my studies in Dance. From there I felt like my hopes and dreams were crushed and my life literally was flipped upside down within a blink of an eye. My emotions began to fluctuate, my doubts within my career began to increase, and I experienced my first heartbreak. So many unfortunate events were occurring at once I felt like I did not know who I was anymore. Until one day I set standards for myself again, I decided to not settle for anything, and most importantly I made a promise to myself to begin MY NEW JOURNEY. I knew “Walking Into My Faith” it was time to heal, enjoy life, and become a better version of myself.
